Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Philadelphia will host the 2016 Democratic National Convention the week of July 25, 2016. “I am thrilled to announce that Philadelphia will host the convention where we will nominate the 45th President of the United States,” Wasserman Schultz said.

This week marks the GOP’s 50th+ attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act. Thanks to the law, 10 million Americans gained access to health care in just one year and 17 million parents no longer have to worry about their children being denied access to care because of a pre-existing condition.

On Thursday, President Barack Obama addressed his fellow Democrats in Philadelphia at the House Democratic Issues Conference. The President discussed the importance of Democrats continuing to stand up and fight for policies that help move America forward.

This week, President Obama traveled to my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland to announce his plans to expand paid leave in order to benefit working families. On Thursday, the President signed a presidential memorandum implementing six weeks of paid leave for federal employees after the birth or adoption of a child.

This week, on the heels of a November jobs report that exceeded expectations, the economy has continued to strengthen. The Labor Department announced a 13% drop in unemployment benefit applications for this year. Bloomberg also reports that consumer confidence is higher than “at any time since the recession began,”

On Wednesday, President Obama convened the Early Education Summit that was announced in October. The summit brings together policymakers, school superintendents, corporate and community leaders to discuss the importance of high-quality early childhood education.

After a grand jury decided not to indict in the death of Eric Garner, President Obama said he and outgoing Attorney General, Eric Holder, are “not going to let up” in their efforts to heal the racial tensions between law enforcement officers and minority communities nationwide.
