This month marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, which have helped millions of Americans obtain health coverage. Republicans have lashed out against these programs in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act, which has strengthened the Medicare trust fund. Our Facitivists have more on the GOP field’s opposition to Medicare and Medicaid here.
On Wednesday, DNC Research Director Lauren Dillion derided Chris Christie’s poor leadership as New Jersey’s Governor in a new piece for Medium.com. From inaction on climate change policies to six vetoes of funding for women’s health care, Governor Christie’s poor decisions negatively impacted the lives of New Jerseyans. Check out the full piece here.
Also this week, another GOP hopeful, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, has continued his record of failing to take a stance on key issues. Walker has notably refused to discuss the existence of evolution, and, more recently, failed to condemn fellow GOP candidate Mike Huckabee’s comparison between the Iran nuclear deal and the Holocaust. Our Factivists are back with more on Walker’s inability to commit to a position here.
Furthermore, while Jeb Bush may be fluent in Spanish and married to a woman from Mexico, many of his policies will devastate Latino communities. The 2016 Republican candidate has referred to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as an “undeserving reward” and even compared DACA and DAPA to the actions of a Latin American dictator. Our Factivists have more on Bush’s anti-immigrant statements and policies here.
Have a safe and happy weekend.
